“Early Warning” Film- Official Site

27 07 2011

The Earthquake “Early Warning” independent documentary, which I developed & produced, now has an official home at eew.crosscity.com, thanks to my brother (Nagi), who is hosting the site on his crosscity.com hosting services.  The site will also serve as an unofficial journal of activities surrounding the progress of the Early Warning System in the US West Coast!

About the Documentary

The recent Magnitude 9 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan reminded us of the sudden destructive power of earthquakes- but, this earthquake was different in that a warning flashed, on televisions, computer screens and cell phones across the country, seconds before the devastating earthquake hit. The warning, which ranged from 10-30 seconds, allowed people to duck and cover, and industry to halt sensitivity machinery and isolate hazardous chemicals; the multitude of small actions taken reduced the overall impact of the event. Japan and few other countries are equipped with such an EEW system, with Japan’s EEW system being the most advanced. But the United States is far behind other countries in a deployed EEW system; California is one of the most earthquake prone places on earth, due to San Andreas fault, yet it lacks even an early warning system; same is the case for Washington and Oregon states, though both states are under earthquake prone Cascadia subduction zone, and can expect an earthquake as devastating as the one experienced recently in Japan!

Watch the "Early Warning" documentary:

The “Early Warning” Documentary describes the earthquake early warning system and then brings to light the reasons why such an early warning system is not in place in the US West Coast and if and when such a system is expected to be in place in the US West Coast.

“Early Warning” documentary was filmed by Ty Kelly & Mahesh Punyamurthula, recent graduates from the Independent Filmmaking Diploma course from the University of Washington, Seattle; the documentary was produced by jsmags productions.

Early Warning System

Apart from providing details about the documentary, this web site will also be used as the unofficial venue to report progress of the development of the earthquake early warning systems in the US West Coast. The development of the early warning system is a massive undertaking that involves multiple teams at Federal and State level & industries, at several millions of dollars of budget and that which requires several years of detailed work and effort; so, there will be a lot to share and talk about- please stay tuned!

Rajababu statue to be installed in Rajahmundry

[From The Hindu]

RAJAHMUNDRY: Movie Artistes Association (MAA) will install the statue of noted comedian Rajababu in Rajahmundry next month to mark his birth anniversary. This was announced by M. Murali Mohan, president of the MAA, during a press conference in here on Wednesday.

Mr. Murali Mohan said under the banner of ‘Godavari Fine Arts’ they would install Rajababu’s statue on the Godavari river bund. It was decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rajababu on Sunday i.e Feb 13 instead of Feb. 14 as it would be convenient for public to attend the function on Sunday. The MAA president said a ‘Mega Comedy Event’ would be organised at Government Arts College grounds with 127 comedians in Telugu film industry on that day.

Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro

9 05 2009

The greatest American Director is back! What ever happened to him, I wondered for many years- how can such a creative genius be “quiet” for so many years? How can someone curb such talent? It’s not like they need 10 years to make a movie(!)- case in point- James Cameron.

Well in any case, what a great treat it is to see another movie from the master! Can’t wait to catch it. Here is the trailer and the official movie site.

Screen caps and info from apple.com/trailers site.

Synopsis:

TETRO is Francis Ford Coppola’s first original screenplay since THE CONVERSATION. It is his most personal film yet, arising from memories and emotions from his early life, though totally fictional. It is the bittersweet story of two brothers, of family lost and found and the conflicts and secrets within a highly creative Argentine-Italian family.

Rambo is back!

3 01 2008

I’m a huge fan of Rambo movies and I was very surprised and delighted to learn that there is is at least one more episode of John Rambo that is coming our way, in fact, in January 2008. With all the crappy, senseless “theme” movies that keep getting recycled, Rambo is a pleasant change that I don’t mind seeing.

image

I think Rambo deserves a sequel, especially after 20 years

image

Go Rambo!

Synopsis-

“Twenty years after the last film in the series, John Rambo (SYLVESTER STALLONE) has retreated to northern Thailand, where he’s running a longboat on the Salween River.  On the nearby Thai-Burma (Myanmar) border, the world’s longest-running civil war, the Burmese-Karen conflict, rages into its 60th year.

image

But Rambo, who lives a solitary, simple life in the mountains and jungles fishing and catching poisonous snakes to sell, has long given up fighting, even as medics, mercenaries, rebels and peace workers pass by on their way to the war- torn region.

image

That all changes when a group of human rights missionaries search out the “American river guide” John Rambo.  When Sarah (JULIE BENZ) and Michael Bennett (PAUL SCHULZE) approach him, they explain that since last year’s trek to the refugee camps, the Burmese military has laid landmines along the road, making it too dangerous for overland travel.  They ask Rambo to guide them up the Salween and drop them off, so they can deliver medical supplies and food to the Karen tribe.

image

After initially refusing to cross into Burma, Rambo takes them, dropping off Sarah, Michael and the aid workers… Less than two weeks later, pastor Arthur Marsh (KEN HOWARD) finds Rambo and tells him the aid workers did not return and the embassies have not helped locate them.

image

He tells Rambo he’s mortgaged his home and raised money from his congregation to hire mercenaries to get the missionaries, who are being held captive by the Burmese army. Although the United States military trained him to be a lethal super soldier in Vietnam, decades later Rambo’s reluctance for violence and conflict are palpable, his scars faded, yet visible.  However, the lone warrior knows what he must do…”
